- Ministry of Education's First Financial Support Project for Remote Universities
- Recruitment for New and Transfer Students for the 2021 Second Semester Starts from Tuesday, June 1
Seoul Cyber University (Department Chair of Korean Language and Culture Professor Byungseok Park, Department Chair of Family Coaching Counseling Professor Yowan Kim) co-hosted the "Education on Understanding Diverse Families Including Multicultural Families" with the Gangbuk-gu Healthy Family Multicultural Family Support Center (Director Eunju Han) on May 29, 2021, from 2 to 4 PM.
About 90 students who pre-registered participated in this two-hour online video conference-style education, which was conducted by Kim Minkyeong, a professional instructor of diverse family understanding education from the Korea Healthy Family Promotion Institute. Kim Minkyeong argued that we must accept the shift from the noun form concept of "normal family," formed by traditional marriage, matrimony, and adoption, to the verb form family concept that includes "all families other than normal." Therefore, she emphasized that the existing "multicultural families," which are classified into specific categories and cause prejudice, should be understood as one of the "diverse families" in an integrated form. Kim Minkyeong stated that the new meaning of family is a living community that shares life, livelihood, residence, and emotional intimacy.
A student A from the Department of Family Coaching Counseling who attended this education expressed, "It was a time to reflect on how fixed ideas, prejudices, and preconceptions about family negatively affect our lives and lead us to blame others." Student B from the Department of Korean Language and Culture also said, "I used to think only about my own family, but through this program, I have increased acceptance and sensitivity toward various family forms such as multicultural families and community families. I hope many people participate in such education." They also expressed hope for continuous educational opportunities.
Seoul Cyber University (Departments of Korean Language and Culture / Family Coaching Counseling) signed a comprehensive mutual cooperation agreement with the Gangbuk-gu Healthy Family Multicultural Family Support Center on January 27 to collaborate on Korean language and multicultural education projects, and this program is the first cooperative project under that agreement.
Seoul Cyber University received the highest grade, A, in the "2020 Remote University Certification and Competency Diagnosis" conducted by the Ministry of Education, announced on January 29. Following the 2007 comprehensive evaluation as the best remote university and the 2013 cyber university level evaluation with an A grade, Seoul Cyber University was selected as an A-grade university again in the 2020 remote university certification and competency diagnosis, becoming the first cyber university in Korea to receive an A grade in the Ministry of Education's official evaluation three times consecutively.
