[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] KM Pharm announced on the 1st that it has independently developed a shampoo composition that suppresses seborrheic dermatitis using natural bio ingredients and has filed a patent for it.
The composition for which the patent was filed this time was developed based on the fact that '2-3 butanediol,' produced through an eco-friendly fermentation process without chemical synthesis, has antibacterial effects. Experiments were conducted on the lipophilic fungus known to cause seborrheic dermatitis (Malassezia Furfur). According to the company, the experiment confirmed a 99.9% sterilization effect.
Until now, treatments for seborrheic dermatitis mainly used ingredients containing ciclopirox, which have shown side effects such as skin irritation, flushing, itching, and erythema.
KM Pharm’s Convergence Research Institute stated, “Based on the patent application for the shampoo composition using 2-3 butanediol, we are accelerating the development of products applicable to the cosmetics and pharmaceutical fields in the future.”
