IKEA Store to Open in Complex Shopping Mall... Gangdong Branch Scheduled for 2024 Opening

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The IKEA Gangdong store, a large-scale complex shopping mall, is set to open in the second half of 2024.

IKEA Korea held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new IKEA complex facility on the site of Godeok Biz Valley in Gangdong-gu, Seoul, on the 31st of last month. About 60 officials attended the ceremony, including Frederik Johansson, CEO of IKEA Korea, Lee Jung-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, Hwang Ju-young, Chairman of the District Council, Assembly members Lee Hae-sik and Jin Sun-mi, and Jeon Gye-hyung, CEO of JK Future.

The IKEA Gangdong store will be IKEA Korea's first large-scale complex shopping mall-type store and the first IKEA store located within Seoul. Godeok Biz Valley will be constructed with a total floor area of approximately 300,000㎡, consisting of 21 floors above ground and 6 floors underground, and will include a cinema, shopping mall, and offices. Among these, the IKEA Gangdong store will cover a total floor area of 58,711㎡ including parking and aims for completion in the second half of 2024.

The IKEA Gangdong store boasts excellent transportation infrastructure, including Olympic-daero, Seoul Ring Expressway, Gangil IC, and Subway Line 5, providing outstanding accessibility not only for residents of Gangdong-gu but also for customers living in eastern Seoul and Gyeonggi Province.

Frederik Johansson, CEO of IKEA Korea, said, "We are pleased that more people can easily and conveniently experience IKEA's home furnishing through the first complex shopping mall-type store in Seoul, the IKEA Gangdong store. As a company that offers lower-priced products and better accessibility, and is friendly to both people and the planet, we will do our best to grow together as a good neighbor within the local community."
