Realizing the 'Dream of the Goose' at Korea's First Non-Grade, Non-Credit, Non-Teaching 'Doing University'
Supporting Youth Dreams through K-POP Private Lessons and Musical Performances
Talk Show with President Jeon Ho-hwan on Inauguration D
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] "I had a dream, even when abandoned and shabby, I kept it deep in my heart like a treasure... I believe in that dream, watch over me."
Singer Insooni (Kim In-soon), who recited the beloved song "Dream of the Goose," was at the moment of "flying high over the wall and into the sky" as described in the lyrics.
Insooni becomes a distinguished professor at Dongmyung University. It is rare to find a popular singer who has spent a lifetime on stage becoming a distinguished professor at a university.
On the 27th, immediately after the inauguration ceremony of Dongmyung University's 10th President Jeon Ho-hwan, a talk show was held, marking singer and educator Professor Kim In-soon's first lecture stage.
Professor Kim, a mixed-race singer, serves as the chairman of Haemil School, a boarding alternative school in Hongcheon, Gangwon Province, established in 2013 to help multicultural family students realize their dreams.
Professor Kim established the school with the philosophy that "we should not see and educate everyone as one. Each person is a creator and must find their own uniqueness."
This educational philosophy perfectly fits the campus of "Doing University," founded by Dongmyung University President Jeon Ho-hwan. It was the moment when popular singer Insooni was invited as Distinguished Professor Kim In-soon.
On May 27, at Dongmyeong University, President Jeon Ho-hwan and Distinguished Professor Kim In-soon (stage name Insuni) are conducting a talk show during the inauguration ceremony for the 10th president.
Professor Kim serves as a distinguished professor at the 3-No (No Grade, No Credit, No Teaching) "Doing University."
At Doing University, the curriculum focuses on developing abilities to live in any world that comes, through challenge and passion, communication and empathy, respect and consideration, physical strength and collaboration.
If these abilities were to be graded, they would earn an A+. The goal of this ivory tower is to achieve the "Dream of the Goose," kept deeply even when abandoned and torn.
At Doing University, which implements Korea's first innovative university education, courses such as ▲K-POP private lessons ▲musical performances are taught.
Distinguished Professor Kim In-soon said, "Though I was poor, I constantly learned through experiences overcoming hardship, loneliness, and pain. Yesterday's deprivation made me who I am today," adding, "At Doing University, where I 'practice' the love I have received, I hope to give back to young people who hold the Dream of the Goose."
Professor Kim explained, "I believe the future requires not only studying but also diverse experiences, sports, and digital convergence. As chairman of Haemil School, an alternative middle school, I educate multicultural background students to dream and teach them how to realize those dreams. That is why I came to this 'Doing University,' which shares the same founding purpose, as a professor."
She also said, "If the values emphasized by Dongmyung University's Doing University spread to elementary, middle, and high schools, children will study more happily and plan their futures better. On stage, I want to say that a singer needs not only to sing well but also passion, challenge, empathy, and consideration."
Professor Kim is confident that with good character, courage to challenge, and perseverance, one will get closer to where they want to be. Dream and practice are the true life.
She expressed her aspiration, saying, "I look forward to working with students at Dongmyung University to find their own uniqueness."
After having a talk show with President Jeon Ho-hwan, Professor Kim received her distinguished professor appointment certificate. The talk show, which will be the first lecture program at Doing University, will soon be broadcast on YouTube.
Insooni, who debuted as a singer in 1978, is a national singer who has touched the hearts of the public with lively melodies and lyrical songs such as "Every Night," "Father," and "Dream of the Goose."
She has served as vice dean of the Korea Broadcasting Arts Promotion Institute, chairman of Haemil School, and distinguished professor at Dongmyung University.
She has received awards including the Republic of Korea National Medal of Magnolia, the 1st Korea Practice Award in Culture and Arts, the 4th Future Women Leaders Award, and the Korea Broadcasting Association Singer Award.
Doing University, where Professor Kim was appointed, has three majors: Entrepreneurship, Digital Performing Arts, and YouTube Creator.
The Entrepreneurship major cultivates challenging entrepreneurial spirit and capabilities to lead the 4th Industrial Revolution society. The Digital Performing Arts major develops the ability to combine the artistic sensibility of Hallyu, such as K-pop, breakdance, and acting, with digital technology. The YouTube Creator major fosters comprehensive skills to create unique content and manage channels in the YouTube world, which is the trend of the times.
