Seongbukdong-gil IoT Shared Parking Lots 3 Locations: Boksagol Parking Lot (10 spaces), Dodamdodam Parking Lot (7 spaces), Simujang Parking Lot (11 spaces)
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] From now on, residents of Seongbuk-gu will be able to use shared parking lots more smartly.
Starting June 1, a shared parking service applying the Internet of Things (IoT) will be operated. To ensure stable service provision, a pilot operation will be conducted on 28 parking spaces across three resident-priority parking zones on Seongbukdong-gil.
An official from Seongbuk-gu stated, “By using IoT-based sensors and a mobile app, users can check parking spaces in real time and quickly and conveniently find available parking during idle times, effectively resolving citizens’ inconvenience and parking difficulties all at once.”
To provide the IoT-based shared parking service, Seongbuk-gu signed a business agreement with Hancom Mobility, a specialized IoT shared parking company, last February.
The pilot shared parking lots are located near Seongbukdong 237-3 public parking lot in three locations. Seongbuk-gu named them to reflect the characteristics of Seongbukdong, a historic and cultural district: Boksagol Parking Lot (in front of Seongbukdong Public Parking Lot, 10 spaces), Dodamdodam Parking Lot (in front of Seongbukdong Monastery, 7 spaces), and Simujang Parking Lot (in front of Deoksu Church, 11 spaces), aiming to convey a friendly image to local residents and visitors.
The operating hours are 24 hours a day. The parking fee is affordable at 1,200 KRW for the first 60 minutes. Users can search for available parking spaces in real time and use them for the desired time through the smartphone app ‘Parking Friends.’ For users who have difficulty using smartphones, an ARS service will also be operated concurrently.
Seongbuk-gu Mayor Lee Seung-ro said, “Seongbukdong, called an open-air museum, retains traces of numerous cultural assets and activities of cultural artists representing modern and contemporary times. While residents take pride in the area and often willingly share parking spaces with visitors, there has been a limit to meeting demand. By utilizing advanced IT technology to conveniently and quickly share and distribute parking spaces, we will resolve inconveniences and allow more people to enjoy the value and charm of the region.”
Seongbuk-gu plans to actively collect user feedback during this pilot project, enhance system stability, and expand the project focusing on areas with severe parking difficulties.
