‘ONmam Parent Safety Support Group’ Appointed on the 13th to Help Healthy Growth of Children and Adolescents... Roles Include Youth Policy Proposals, Problem Prevention Campaigns, Outreach, and Monitoring
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Chae Hyun-il) and the Youth Counseling Welfare Center announced that they have appointed the ‘ONmam Parent Safety Support Group’ to accurately assess the situations of at-risk youth and help ensure early and appropriate responses, and will begin full-scale activities.
The ‘ONmam Parent Safety Support Group’ is a prevention and support organization for at-risk youth, composed of 13 parents with adolescent children in the area. They discuss key youth-related policies and work to establish a safe and healthy online and offline growth environment.
The name ‘ONmam Parent Safety Support Group’ reflects the determination to “turn on the fire of the heart (ON)” and wholeheartedly lead efforts to make Yeongdeungpo a safe place for youth.
The district recruited 13 parents to serve as the support group members from March to April and presented appointment certificates on May 13 at Hey YDP, a women’s communication and culture space.
The support group will carry out activities including ▲monitoring harmful environments for youth and conducting outreach campaigns with their children ▲discussing youth-related policies and social issues ▲making policy recommendations ▲participating in six sessions of parent capacity-building education focused on improving parent-child relationships ▲and joining happiness healing training programs aimed at enhancing the mental and physical well-being and life satisfaction of participating parents.
Additionally, they will promote ‘Hanppyeom,’ a smartphone-based web app encyclopedia for child guidance developed by Yeongdeungpo-gu.
‘Hanppyeom’ was created by the Yeongdeungpo-gu Youth Counseling Welfare Center in response to the increased time children and adolescents spend at home due to the spread of COVID-19, which has led to a sharp rise in computer and smartphone usage. It is Korea’s first multilingual child guidance web app designed to recognize potential problems and risks in cyberspace and prepare appropriate countermeasures.
‘Hanppyeom’ categorizes smartphone basics, games, YouTube and internet videos, webtoons, and more, helping parents and youth understand the risks and culture of each area, providing guidance methods and recommended resources to facilitate proper communication and guidance in the smart media world.
Notably, reflecting Yeongdeungpo’s characteristic of having many multicultural families, it was developed in three language versions: Korean, English, and Chinese.
Moreover, as long as there is internet access, users can access the content anytime and anywhere simply by scanning a QR code tag, providing content without spatial or temporal limitations.
The ONmam Parent Safety Support Group plans to promote ‘Hanppyeom’ among nearby parents, gather user feedback, and continuously improve and develop the app.
Furthermore, parents in the district who wish to participate as members of the Parent Safety Support Group can apply by phone to the Yeongdeungpo-gu Youth Counseling Welfare Center.
Chae Hyun-il, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “I hope that through the diverse activities of the ‘ONmam Parent Safety Support Group,’ a bridge of empathy and communication between parents and children can be formed,” adding, “We will continue to solidly develop wholesome and beneficial online and offline educational content and youth support policies.”
