There have been over 1,500 reports of adverse reactions following COVID-19 vaccinations in the past three days.
On the 29th, the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team (Promotion Team) announced that a total of 1,556 new cases of adverse reactions were reported to health authorities after receiving the vaccine between the 26th and 28th of this month.
By day, there were 367 cases on the 26th, 405 on the 27th, and 784 on the 28th. The Promotion Team releases adverse reaction report statistics three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
Death reports were received for 3 people on the 26th, 8 people on the 27th, and 3 people on the 28th, totaling 14 additional deaths over the three days. Among them, 11 had received the Pfizer vaccine, and the remaining 3 had received the AstraZeneca vaccine.
By gender, 11 were male and 3 were female. By age group, there was 1 person over 100 years old, 1 person in their 90s, 9 people in their 80s, and 3 people in their 70s. It was identified that 10 of these individuals had underlying conditions, while investigations are ongoing for the remaining 4.
The time from vaccination to death varied widely, ranging from within 24 hours to up to 50 days.
Specific cases include an 80-year-old male, part of the general vaccination target group for seniors aged 75 and older, who received the Pfizer vaccine on the 27th and died the same day. Another male over 100 years old, also in the same vaccination target group, received the Pfizer vaccine on the 21st and died the following day. Both had underlying health conditions.
There were 14 additional suspected cases of severe systemic allergic reactions known as 'anaphylaxis' (12 cases from AstraZeneca and 2 from Pfizer).
A total of 110 new reports of major adverse reactions, including 'special interest adverse reactions,' ICU admissions, life-threatening conditions, permanent disabilities, and sequelae, were reported (63 cases from Pfizer and 47 from AstraZeneca). The remaining 1,418 cases involved common symptoms after vaccination such as muscle pain, headache, fever, chills, and nausea.
The cumulative number of death reports after vaccination stands at 179 (116 from Pfizer and 63 from AstraZeneca). Including cases where other symptoms were initially reported but worsened leading to death, the total is 238.
Suspected anaphylaxis cases total 225 (167 from AstraZeneca and 58 from Pfizer), and suspected major adverse reaction cases total 956 (486 from Pfizer and 470 from AstraZeneca).
Of all adverse reaction reports, 94.9%, or 25,499 cases, were relatively mild symptoms commonly seen after vaccination such as muscle pain, headache, fever, chills, and nausea.
On the morning of the 29th holiday, citizens are heading to the vaccination room at Sadang Sports Complex in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, where a COVID-19 vaccination center has been set up.
