[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suhwan] U.S. President Joe Biden will sign an executive order to address prejudice and violence against Asian Americans.
On the 28th (local time), the White House stated in a press release that President Biden plans to establish a separate White House-level initiative to eliminate discrimination against Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.
The Biden administration intends to coordinate a federal government response to prejudice and violent acts targeting Asians through this initiative.
Additionally, plans will be made to expand economic stability measures and opportunities for Asian immigrants and Native Hawaiians.
The White House said, "Asian Americans and Native Hawaiians have made very important contributions to our society, economy, and culture, but racism and xenophobia continue to threaten their safety and dignity."
In particular, the White House pointed out, "The COVID-19 pandemic and hateful remarks by some political leaders have tragically led to a sharp increase in prejudice, violence, and hatred against Asians."
Earlier, President Biden signed the Asian Hate Crime Prevention Act on the 20th, which passed Congress with overwhelming support.
