[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government is recruiting 300 university student part-time workers to experience Seoul city administration and gain social experience during the summer vacation.
On the 30th, Seoul announced that it will recruit and operate 300 workers to work at the city hall, affiliated offices, investment-funded institutions, and the Fire and Disaster Headquarters. The working period is from July 5 to July 30, 2021, and students who are first selected through a lottery and then finally selected after verification of supporting documents will work.
The Seoul university student part-time job is a popular part-time job with a high competition rate of over 30 to 1 each recruitment, allowing students to directly experience various tasks performed by public officials on site, such as civil service guidance and administrative work assistance.
Seoul will accept applications from May 31 to June 5 through the ‘City Homepage’ and the ‘Seoul Special City App’, and the first selected candidates through a computerized lottery will be announced on June 10. The ‘Seoul Special City App’ can be downloaded and installed for free by searching ‘Seoul Special City’ in the app store.
Eligibility varies by selection type. Among the total recruitment of 300 people, 210 people (70%) for general selection are university students currently enrolled or on leave (excluding graduate students) who are registered residents of Seoul or enrolled or on leave at universities located in Seoul (excluding graduate students).
Special selection (30%) of 90 people targets university students currently enrolled or on leave (excluding graduate students) registered as residents of Seoul as of the announcement date (May 31), who are recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security, lower-income class, registered disabled persons themselves, families with three or more children, contributors to Seoul city administration (excellent volunteers, recipients of city service awards), North Korean defectors, multicultural families, and national veterans under relevant laws.
The first selection of candidates is conducted by computerized lottery for each of the five working institutions (city hall, offices, investment-funded institutions, Fire and Disaster Headquarters, and community service centers). First, 90 people (30% of the recruitment) are selected through a lottery for special selection, and then a computerized lottery is conducted again for those who failed in the special selection and applicants for general selection.
University students finally selected through verification of supporting documents will be assigned considering the results of the department-wise university student part-time job demand survey, applicants’ preferences, majors, and residence comprehensively.
Meanwhile, considering the COVID-19 situation, application documents can only be submitted via email, and if supporting documents are not submitted within the deadline after the announcement of the first selection results or if the application content differs from the facts, the selection will be canceled, so submission should be carefully done.
Meanwhile, for autonomous districts, recruitment periods and working periods differ by district and are conducted separately. For specific details related to university student part-time jobs in each district office, inquiries can be made to the district office of residence. Autonomous districts plan to select a total of 1,640 people independently, and working periods and conditions vary by district.
