Creation of the Largest Shasta Daisy Colony in Korea
'Shasta in High1' to Open This June
Enjoy Various Activities Including June Cart Tours, Trekking, Flea Market, and Seasonal Menus
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Jeong-su] Recently, High1 Resort was newly selected as one of the '7 Recommended Wellness Tourism Destinations of 2021' announced by the Korea Tourism Organization. Located in Jeongseon, Gangwon-do, High1 Resort is surrounded by the wildflower paradise of Hambaksan Mountain, attracting travelers seeking to escape daily life and find relaxation for their body and mind in nature.
When it comes to 'High1,' the Sky Road, known as a premium trekking course in Korea, is popular. Every June, the largest domestic colony of Shasta daisies in full bloom is also regarded as a unique tourist attraction among visitors.
Since the ski resort opened in 2006, as part of the slope greening project, High1 has sown seeds of 20 to 40 species of wildflowers annually over 850,000㎡ of slopes. Thanks to these efforts, when the snow melts, the slopes transform into a wildflower colony where about 80 species such as Adonis amurensis, cornflower, lily of the valley, daylily, and cosmos can be seen seasonally.
The highlight is the pure white beauty of the Shasta daisy. 'Shasta' means 'white' in the Indian language. The vivid yellow and white petals create a pure and clean impression. Flowers blooming along the slope paths also display various kinds of beauty. From mid to late June, the Valley Herb area, where the Shasta daisy colony is in full bloom, is popular as a unique photo zone for people of all ages.
The best way to enjoy wildflowers at High1 is the 'Sky Road Cart Tour.' As the name suggests, it is a golf cart tour starting from the Mountain Base, passing through the Slow Garden and Valley Herb, and returning to the Mountain Base, taking about 50 minutes.
Accompanied by a forest interpretation expert, visitors can hear stories related to wildflowers and trees. For those who want a private trip, there is also a self-driving course where you can freely move by driving the cart yourself. Currently, due to COVID-19, only the self-driving course is operated. Operating hours are from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Inquiries and reservations can be made at the ticket office on the 2nd floor of the Mountain Ski House.
High1 has designated the upcoming June as 'Shasta in High1' and will operate various packages and events centered on the Shasta daisy to satisfy travelers' five senses.
First, a Shasta Healing Trekking Package for families will be offered. The trekking will be operated on the 19th and 26th, starting from Mountain Base and going to High1 Top and back. Using the package allows customers to enjoy High1 condo accommodation, trekking, Water World, and food and beverage discounts together.
Backpacking enthusiasts are recommended the Sky Road Challenge. High1 offers a backpacking program along the Untan Pass every month. This June, it will be held from the 18th as a 2-night 3-day itinerary (Sky Road Challenge Plus) on a course that lets you fully enjoy the Shasta daisy colony.
Food is also indispensable on a trip. The panoramic restaurant located at High1 Top, 1,340 meters above sea level, will offer seasonal menus using flowers throughout June, including petal bibimbap, noodle flower salad, flower tea, and shaved ice, delighting travelers' eyes and taste buds.
Additionally, various events such as the High1 Flea Market with local residents (6/11~6/12), local artist busking performances (6/11~6/12), and a balcony concert (6/12) will be held throughout the resort.
