Opening of 'Sinjeong Sallim,' a Shared Community Space for Residents of Sinjeong 2-dong, Yangcheon-gu

Opening of 'Sinjeong Sallim,' a Shared Community Space for Residents of Sinjeong 2-dong, Yangcheon-gu

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) Sinjeong 2-dong has officially started the first year of the Living Commercial Area Revitalization Project, which aims to stimulate local consumption and revive the local economy. On the 27th, it opened the community center ‘Sinjeong Sallim,’ a shared space for residents.

In the first year of the Living Commercial Area Revitalization Project, the Sinjeong Living Commercial Area Promotion Committee formed a resident-centered planning team through a public recruitment process during last year’s foundational and pilot project period, discovering essential living services for residents.

Through a resident survey, the Promotion Committee selected six handmade stores within the local shops and has been promoting various community revitalization projects such as the community store project ‘Shared Refrigerator,’ and the production and distribution of an online newsletter through the editorial committee and our neighborhood reporters.

The committee’s goal for this year is to organize merchants and residents within the living commercial area as cooperative members and transition into the Sinjeong Living Commercial Area Social Cooperative.

To this end, based on resident demand, the community store has been expanded, leading to the opening of the community center ‘Sinjeong Sallim,’ which consists of shared office space, shared meeting space, and a shared kitchen.

At ‘Sinjeong Sallim,’ innovative merchants will be nurtured through merchant education programs, and the neighborhood campaign ‘Let’s All Walk Around the Neighborhood Together’ will be conducted to promote the living commercial area. It is planned to serve as a networking hub between residents and merchants and to activate resident participation.

Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, “We are conducting foundational projects to promote living commercial area projects not only in the Sinjeong area but also in Mokdong and Sinwol areas,” adding, “We will strive harder to expand living commercial areas throughout our district as these areas are finally selected for the revitalization project.”
