Seongdong-gu 'Youth-Only Counseling Welfare Center' Opens Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, Delivering a Message of Hope to Youth

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) held an opening ceremony for the Youth Counseling and Welfare Center on the 26th, marking the official start of support for at-risk and out-of-school youth in the area.

The Youth Counseling and Welfare Center, previously located within the Seongdong Municipal Youth Center, has been relocated to the former Kumho Youth Reading Room site (Kumho-dong 1-ga), expanding infrastructure concentrated in Wangsimni to the Kumho, Oksu, and Eungbong areas. The center will also operate an out-of-school youth support center, aiming to protect at-risk youth and actively support the education and independence of out-of-school youth.

In particular, while remodeling the old reading room into the Counseling and Welfare Center, facilities supporting youth hobbies such as personal broadcasting, guitar playing, and photography were established in addition to youth counseling rooms.

Earlier this year, the center was selected for a project by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and Seoul City, and equipped with a book caf?, career coaching, and an activity room, enabling it to serve as a dedicated space for out-of-school youth and actively support their growth.

Despite the COVID-19 crisis last year, the district promoted distinctive projects such as the out-of-school youth job experience support programs "God of Business" and "Seongdong-gu Youth Mentoring." After relocation, they plan to utilize the surrounding environment, including Daehyeonsan Park, to conduct special nature-friendly programs within the urban area.

Since 2019, the district has been implementing the first mid- to long-term plan at the autonomous district level, the "2019?2022 Seongdong-gu Youth Policy Comprehensive Plan," expanding youth facilities in the area, efficiently reallocating resources, and operating specialized projects to revitalize youth activities through various policies.

At the opening ceremony attended by youth, parents, local residents, and heads of related organizations, Seongdong-gu Mayor Jeong Won-oh listened to parents' opinions and stated, “As a professional counseling institution supporting youth welfare, we will spare no effort in promotion and support through cooperation with related organizations so that many youth and parents can visit in the future.”
