Food waste processor manufacturer GL Plus Co., Ltd. has supplied its eco-friendly food waste processor, the ‘GL Food Waste Processor,’ to Samsung Electronics’ Suwon campus.
GL Plus, a global ODM manufacturer leading the food waste processor industry, secured a supply contract with Samsung by demonstrating excellence in various aspects such as the patented microorganism ‘Barimi’s’ rapid decomposition ability, powerful deodorization, safety, and price competitiveness. The company has dispatched staff to provide aftercare to ensure that the remaining 5% of residual byproducts are effectively utilized.
An official stated, “Samsung, the largest domestic revenue company, signed a supply contract with us for food waste processing related to employees’ lunchboxes and other food waste,” adding, “As the adoption of eco-friendly food waste processors becomes active across various industries, Samsung’s small initiative, with its globally powerful influence, is expected to make a significant contribution to fostering a sustainable eco-friendly culture and social atmosphere.”
In fact, recently, the introduction of food waste processors to handle in-store food waste has been active in industries such as restaurants, hospitals, schools, supermarkets, and convenience stores. Among food waste processors, those using microbial decomposition methods that mature, decompose, and vaporize food waste to reduce it by up to 99% are considered the most eco-friendly way to process leftover food waste.
By self-processing rather than outsourcing, no separate food waste disposal costs are incurred, resulting in steady demand from restaurants, hospitals, schools, military units, government offices, public institutions, mass catering companies, delivery companies, food companies, and supermarkets.
In response to this trend, GL Plus embraces a philosophy of sustainable product manufacturing beyond zero waste and supplies food waste processor products incorporating the know-how of a global ODM manufacturer to well-known domestic brands and overseas markets through the Original Design Manufacturing (ODM) method.
The GL Food Waste Processor is a microbial decomposition-type food waste processor that converts food waste into compost, which can then be used on the company’s farms or personal gardens. It has attracted attention as a case of sustainable eco-friendly food waste processor development by establishing a virtuous cycle system that utilizes food waste byproducts as natural compost necessary for growing eco-friendly crops. It won the 2021 Consumer-Selected Best Brand Award in the food waste processor category and ranked first in the 2020 Korea Consumer Satisfaction Index in the same category.
A differentiated strategy of practicing sustainable culture through the introduction of eco-friendly systems and policies is also considered a strength. The self-implemented Eco Payback system supports the revitalization of local farms by signing agreements with them, and consumers can purchase eco-friendly crops cultivated with byproducts using Eco Pay, a sustainable consumption system.
By depositing GL Food Waste Processor byproducts (compost) into the GL Eco Payback and sending them to the Eco Pay Mall, consumers accumulate Eco Pay points, which can be used to purchase eco-friendly crops at the Eco Pay Mall. Through this Eco Payback system, GL Plus expects to lead a virtuous cycle role that contributes not only to the environment as a brand representing eco-friendliness but also to the revitalization of local farms.
An official said, “Through the recent product supply contract and business cooperation with Samsung, our patented food waste processing technology and safety have been officially recognized,” adding, “As microbial decomposition-type food waste processors play a role in fostering a sustainable eco-friendly culture, we will continue research and development and launch new products to take the lead in spreading eco-friendly food waste processors.”
