In particular, the number of employed persons in the manufacturing sector, the region's main industry, showed an increase for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic last month.
According to Chungnam Province on the 26th, as of the end of last month, the number of employed persons in the area was 1,203,000, an increase of 30,000 (2.5%) compared to 1,173,000 in the same period last year.
By gender, the number of employed males increased by 12,000 (1.7%) and females by 18,000 (3.8%) compared to the same month last year.
By industry, the increases were ▲ business, personal, and public services by 25,000 (6.7%↑) ▲ agriculture, forestry, and fisheries by 22,000 (13.1%↑) ▲ manufacturing by 11,000 (4.2%↑) ▲ construction by 5,000 (6.6%↑).
In particular, the number of employed persons in manufacturing had been decreasing month-on-month compared to the same month last year since April last year but turned to an increasing trend last month.
Chungnam recorded an employment rate of 63.6% last month, ranking 3rd nationwide after Jeju (68.7%) and Jeonnam (64.4%).
Above all, among the total 814,000 wage workers last month, the number of regular workers was 598,000, an increase of 13,000 compared to the same month last year, while daily workers were 47,000, a decrease of 9,000, which the province judges as an improvement in the quality of employment.
A provincial official said, “The regional employment rate, which was ranked 5th nationwide in April last year, rose to 3rd last month. This means that the employment indicators in the region have improved, and above all, the increase in employed persons in the main industry of manufacturing is an encouraging result.”
