Fire-Vulnerable Elderly Living Alone and National Merit Households in Gyeonggi and Jeonbuk
Delivered Through Retired Firefighters by October
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] eBay Korea announced on the 26th that it delivered safety supplies worth a total of 90 million KRW at the 'Fire-Vulnerable Silver Generation Safety Keeper Donation Ceremony' held at the Fire Agency on the 25th. At the event, KGC Goryeo Eundan also donated health supplements sold through Gmarket and Auction promotional events.
The donation ceremony was attended by Seominseok, Vice President of eBay Korea, Nam Hwayeong, Director of Fire Policy Bureau at the Fire Agency, and Song Sugeun, Executive Director of KGC Goryeo Eundan.
In the 'Fire-Vulnerable Silver Generation Safety Keeper' project conducted by the Fire Agency, retired firefighters belonging to the Korea Firefighters Association visit 1,900 households of fire-vulnerable elderly living alone and national merit recipients to provide fire prevention, evacuation education, and deliver supplies.
The safety supplies delivered by eBay Korea include ▲app-linked multi-fire carbon monoxide (CO) detectors ▲safety handrails ▲anti-slip mats. At the event, 1,000 bottles of 'KGC Goryeo Eundan Multivitamin All-in-One 60 tablets,' accumulated through the 1+1 donation campaign via Gmarket and Auction Smile Delivery held by KGC Goryeo Eundan in April, were also delivered.
Among the donated items from eBay Korea, the 'app-linked multi-fire CO detector' is a product awarded based on an idea submitted by Fire Lieutenant Lim Changyong of the Gyeonggi Fire Disaster Headquarters in the only domestic private company firefighter safety idea contest held on Gmarket, called 'Here Hero, Here Idea.' It detects fire and smoke for elderly people with impaired vision and hearing, sounding both voice and visual alarms, and through app linkage, it also notifies family and acquaintances.
The donated supplies will be delivered to 1,900 fire-vulnerable elderly living alone and national merit households recommended by the social welfare departments of city and district offices under the jurisdiction of the Gyeonggi and Jeonbuk Fire Headquarters by October. Seven retired firefighters from the Silver Safety Assistance Team will be responsible for providing safety education, installing fire safety equipment, and distributing health supplements to the elderly living alone.
Seominseok, Vice President of eBay Korea, said, "We have been able to directly support the safety of fire-vulnerable elderly living alone while contributing to strengthening the capabilities of retired firefighters. We are pleased that, following four years of direct fire support, we have expanded to supporting public safety, with eBay Korea’s sales brands participating to serve as a sharing platform."
Meanwhile, through the Fire Agency’s 'Fire-Vulnerable Silver Generation Safety Keeper Campaign,' eBay Korea delivers health supplements from brands registered on its platform to elderly living alone. Last year, GC Green Cross participated, and in March this year, KGC Goryeo Eundan joined. To support retired firefighters’ safety education capabilities, eBay Korea provided fire prevention kits and conducted fire safety education for merchants in Dongdaemun and Incheon traditional markets using a $30,000 grant obtained from eBay headquarters in January 2020. Since 2017, through the 'Here, Hero' campaign supporting firefighters as 'heroes beside us,' eBay Korea has provided fire support worth 2.4 billion KRW. In 2021, it sponsored the Fire Agency’s civilian hero award system, the '119 Hero Award,' engaging in social impact activities to enhance public safety.
