Dongjak District Mayor and Senior Officials Gather to Discuss Dongjak District's 5-Year Environmental Plan... Expanding Green Mobility Infrastructure, Increasing Green Spaces to Reduce Greenhouse Gases, Waste Reduction Measures, and More
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] According to climate information from the Korea Meteorological Administration, if greenhouse gas emissions continue at the current rate, the average annual temperature from 2091 to 2100 is expected to rise from 13.3℃ to 17.3℃ compared to 2001 to 2010. The number of heatwave days is projected to increase from 11.1 days to 79.1 days, and tropical night days from 8.2 days to 67.1 days.
In response, Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) announced on the 25th that it held an environmental policy forum titled "Dongjak-gu Environmental Measures 5-Year Plan" twice on the 18th and 24th at the district office auditorium, gathering the mayor and senior officials of the district office in one place.
The environmental policy forum was organized under the vision of "a sustainable environmental city where people and nature coexist," aiming to strengthen the foundation for an eco-friendly city. It was intended to gather commitment to environmental policy formulation and discuss concrete action plans such as achieving goals through interdepartmental collaboration. The forum was shared with all employees via video within the district office.
Dongyun Kwak, Head of the Clean Environment Division, presented on environmental policies, setting policy directions as ▲ Clean and Blue City ▲ Ecological Green City ▲ Pleasant City.
The main topics discussed under the "Clean and Blue City Policy" included expanding the green mobility infrastructure by increasing the ratio of electric vehicle parking spaces and converting existing parking spaces to electric vehicle charging facilities, promoting building energy efficiency measures, and reducing air pollutants through measures such as surcharges on public parking fees for grade 5 emission vehicles and replacing them with eco-friendly electric buses.
Under the "Ecological Green City Creation Policy," measures included installing water-saving devices during building permits and expanding water-saving device installation in existing buildings, and establishing a clean road system. The "Pleasant City Creation Policy" involved promoting a real-name system for waste discharge and reducing waste by limiting the use of disposable products.
Additionally, discussions were held on purchasing electric vehicles above the mandatory ratio when acquiring administrative vehicles, promoting bicycle use, plans for installing hydrogen charging stations, and the need to expand building energy efficiency to private buildings.
The opinions presented at this forum will be gathered to set specific policy goals, leading to the formulation of Dongjak-gu’s environmental policies for more than five years, and efforts to achieve these goals will be strengthened.
Mayor Changwoo Lee of Dongjak-gu said, "This forum was a valuable time to consider whether Dongjak-gu’s environmental policies can take center stage and whether all organizations in the district office can operate like a single living organism." He added, "We will strive to reflect the valuable insights from the forum in future environmental policies and system improvements in Dongjak-gu."
