Gangbuk-gu Hosts 'Special Photo Exhibition Commemorating 100 Years of Cuban Immigration'

Exhibition of 52 Photos by Artist Kim Dong-woo Featuring Descendants of Overseas Independence Activists and Historic Independence Sites... Available for Viewing by Online or Phone Reservation

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyum-soo) is holding a special photo exhibition titled "Memory, Searching for the Lost Traces of History" in the special exhibition hall on the 2nd floor of the Modern History Memorial Hall until August 18.

Organized by the Modern History Memorial Hall, this photo exhibition commemorates the 100th anniversary of Cuban immigration and features 52 photographs taken by photographer Kim Dong-woo.

Photographer Kim has visited sites of the independence movement scattered across various countries over a long period and interviewed descendants of independence activists.

Despite hardships such as hunger and discrimination in foreign lands, independence activists established organizations like the Korean National Association local chapters, Korean churches, and Korean language schools to maintain their identity and also engaged in fundraising and other activities for the independence movement of their homeland.

The exhibition showcases symbolic sites of Korean migration history such as the Manati Port in Cuba and the Anikeng farm in Mexico, as well as independence movement historic sites in various countries including the Town Hall in the United States where the 2nd anniversary of the March 1st Movement was commemorated, the Indian Red Fort training site of the Korean Liberation Army's Inmyeon Front Guerrilla Unit, and the grave site of martyr Lee Jun in The Hague, Netherlands. Descendants of independence activists living in Cuba, Mexico, and Kazakhstan can also be seen in the works.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the exhibition operates by advance reservation only.
