[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Dongducheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 20th that "the research project on the extension section of Dongducheon Station on the Seoul Metropolitan Area Express Train (GTX-C) line confirmed profitability assurance."

The city stated, "As a result of the economic feasibility analysis based on the preliminary feasibility study criteria, a B/C value of 1.73 and financial figures guaranteeing sufficient profitability from the perspective of private operators were derived."

'B/C (Cost-benefit Analysis)' is an analysis to determine cost-effectiveness, and generally, a B/C value of 1 or higher is considered to secure economic feasibility and is judged to have business viability.

At a briefing held on the 18th attended by about 20 members of social organization leaders, the city reported, "The Public Transportation Forum and Isan Co., Ltd. have completed a technical review of the GTX-C line extension to Dongducheon Station," adding, "It is possible to extend Dongducheon Station by installing additional platforms, turnaround tracks, and parking tracks using the existing Gyeongwon Line tracks and station."

Earlier last month, the city held a mid-term report meeting on the preliminary feasibility study for the extension of Dongducheon Station on the 'GTX-C' line, emphasizing the necessity of the extension.

The city predicted that the extension of Dongducheon Station on the GTX-C line would improve access to central Seoul for residents of northern Gyeonggi, who have been marginalized, and that demand would also be high among residents of Nam-myeon, Yangju, Yeoncheon, Cheorwon, Pocheon, where metropolitan transportation conditions are poor, as well as soldiers in nearby military units.

Choi Yong-deok, mayor of Dongducheon City, stated, "We will definitely achieve the extension of the GTX-C line to Dongducheon to improve the transportation infrastructure in northern Gyeonggi and contribute to enhancing the quality of life for residents."

Meanwhile, the city plans to submit the results of this project to Gyeonggi Province and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and strongly demands that the GTX-C line be extended to Dongducheon Station to the 'preferred negotiator' to be selected in the second half of the year.
