LGU+ invests in Brad Ibalso Monster Studio shares... "Strengthening Kids Content Competitiveness"

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] LG Uplus announced on the 20th that it will make an equity investment in the domestic animation production company Monster Studio. Through this equity investment, LG Uplus is expected to further strengthen the competitiveness of its kids content such as ‘U+ Idle Nara’.

Monster Studio, established in 2016, is a content production company focused on animation. Monster Studio’s representative work, ‘Bread Barber Shop,’ is an animation about the genius barber Bread who deliciously decorates desserts. It has gained popularity not only on domestic terrestrial and pay TV channels but also on global online video services (OTT). In addition to the TV series, Bread Barber Shop plans to continue its universe with various spin-off content such as theatrical versions and side stories.

LG Uplus and Monster Studio will exclusively provide new content utilizing the intellectual property (IP) of Bread Barber Shop on U+ Idle Nara, and will collaborate in various fields such as jointly planning and producing new content and services in the future.

LG Uplus’s decision to partner with Monster Studio through equity investment rather than individual content investment is interpreted as an effort to establish a stable partnership and strengthen the competitiveness of its platforms such as U+ Idle Nara from a long-term perspective.

Along with this equity investment, LG Uplus plans to build capabilities to efficiently produce content and discover various revenue models centered on content. In the future, it will select competitive IPs not only in kids content but also in various fields such as idol musicals, and proceed with partnerships and investments with excellent production companies to secure content suitable for differentiating services and platforms.

This equity investment is also expected to provide Monster Studio with a foundation for aggressive content production. Monster Studio plans to expand its content lineup by releasing new works such as ‘Bread Barber Shop Season 3,’ the web animation ‘Cherrytoon’ about middle school girl Cherry, the sci-fi work ‘Dudeojiho,’ and web animations targeting ages 7 to 10 including ‘Strange Shop’ and ‘Mystery Circle.’
