Don't Boil Anymore... CJ CheilJedang Launches 'Bibigo Bibim Yusumyeon'

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] CJ CheilJedang has thrown its hat into the summer noodle market.

On the 20th, CJ CheilJedang announced the launch of two types of frozen noodles, "Bibigo Bibim Yusu (流水) Noodles," which can be conveniently enjoyed by thawing under running water for one minute. These bibim noodles require no boiling, making them the first of their kind in Korea.

The newly introduced products are "Beef Gochujang Bibim Yusu Noodles" and "Perilla Oil Soy Sauce Bibim Yusu Noodles." The boiled noodles and toppings are rapidly frozen together, allowing consumers to place the entire package on a colander and rinse under running water for an ultra-simple preparation.

To preserve the chewy texture without boiling, CJ CheilJedang applied its unique "Yusu Thawing Technology." The dough is specially formulated and kneaded ten thousand times, then cooked under optimal conditions and rapidly frozen to achieve a chewy and springy noodle texture.

The bibim sauce is based on recipes from CJ CheilJedang’s professional chefs, delivering secret sauce flavors comparable to specialty bibim noodle restaurants. The beef gochujang sauce features stir-fried minced beef for deep flavor and spiciness, while the perilla oil soy sauce combines savory soy sauce with fragrant perilla oil to enhance nuttiness.

Consumer feedback was thoroughly reflected through prior research. Responding to opinions that the bibim noodles were somewhat insufficient in quantity and lacked side ingredients, the product contains a generous portion equivalent to about one and a half regular bibim noodles on the market. Additionally, colorful bibim toppings such as zucchini, onion, carrot, wood ear mushrooms, and shiitake mushrooms are included, making it a complete meal without the need for extra ingredients. The price is 6,480 KRW for two servings.

The domestic bibim noodle market reached 150 billion KRW last year and is showing rapid growth. With this summer expected to bring record-breaking heat, competition among companies is anticipated to intensify. CJ CheilJedang aims to captivate consumers by highlighting the unique advantages of "Bibigo Bibim Yusu Noodles." "Bibigo Yusu Noodles" are available for pre-order starting from the 19th on the food specialty mall CJ The Market and Kakao Makers.
