Samyeongdo Kia Motors America Renamed to 'Kia America'
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] Kia will sell its first dedicated electric vehicle, the EV6, in the U.S. market starting early 2022.
Kia America Sales Corporation (KA) announced in a press release on the 18th (local time) that "the first EV6 model will be available in all 50 states of the U.S. early next year, and the high-performance GT model is planned to be launched in the second half of the year."
The EV6 is the first dedicated electric vehicle model under Kia's 'Plan S,' which aims to launch a total of 11 new electric vehicle models by 2026. On the same day, Kia America Sales Corporation also held an EV6 unveiling event at New York's Times Square.
Yoon Seung-gyu, Head of Kia North America Division, said, "The EV6 is a model equipped with advanced technology and convenience by leveraging the various advantages of a cutting-edge platform," adding, "It will provide a completely new experience to consumers who purchase the EV6."
Meanwhile, Kia America Sales Corporation also changed its local corporate name from 'Kia Motors America (KMA)' to 'Kia America (KA)' on the same day.
