Workers Seek Solutions for 'Corona Childcare'... Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service Supports Education at 40 Locations


[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service announced on the 19th that it will prepare related educational programs and accept participating companies to support workers facing increased childcare concerns due to the rise in remote work amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative aims to help parents maintain work-life balance and reduce career interruptions.


Since 2015, the Service has been running the 'Working Mom & Working Daddy Parent Education' program. It has developed parent education lecture materials in collaboration with Yonsei University and others to encourage corporate participation. Every year, more than 80 companies participate, providing education to 14,000 parents.


This year, the program content has been revamped to suit the COVID-19 situation, and 40 companies (around 200 participating parents) will be supported. Classes will be conducted online in small groups of five directors in a non-face-to-face format. Forty professional instructors commissioned by the Service will conduct pre- and post-assessments, childcare consultations, and provide customized parenting solutions.


All parent education is free, and applications can be made under the company name. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested companies can recruit parents and apply via the Service’s website or QR code.


Kang Soonhee, Director of the Service, said, "Through parent education, we aim to find solutions to childcare issues faced by working parents during the recent COVID-19 situation," adding, "Going forward, the Service will continue to play a central role in labor welfare by supporting work-family balance and preventing career interruptions among workers."
