A Three-Generation Family of Six Living Together: Only Vaccinated Members Remain Uninfected

70s Vaccinated Individual Avoids Infection Alone Despite 6 Family Members Testing Positive for COVID-19

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 18th that the preventive effect of vaccination was proven as only the elderly person who received the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine among the family members was not infected, despite a family member recently testing positive for COVID-19.

Among seven family members living together across three generations in Maegok-dong, Suncheon City, six were confirmed positive, but the only vaccinated elderly person in the family was not infected.

This elderly person is over 75 years old and received the vaccination at the Suncheon City Vaccination Center.

Additionally, at a nursing hospital in Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do, where a recent cluster infection occurred, 11 unvaccinated patients were infected while about half of the patients had been vaccinated. Last month, at a church in Goesan, Chungbuk, 22 out of 23 attendees were infected, with only one vaccinated person remaining uninfected.

A city official stated, “The effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccination is being confirmed not just by numbers but through real cases,” and added, “We hope eligible individuals will promptly receive their vaccinations through advance reservations.”

The city began the first round of COVID-19 vaccinations on February 26 and has currently vaccinated 26,125 people, showing a vaccination rate of 9.2% of the total population.

Furthermore, reservations are being accepted until the 3rd of next month for seniors aged 60 and over, patients with severe respiratory diseases, and teachers of kindergartens, daycare centers, and grades 1-2 in elementary schools, with plans to complete vaccinations by the 19th.

A public health center official said, “Since the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccination has been proven, we ask eligible individuals to visit designated vaccination centers on their scheduled dates,” and added, “The city will do its best to ensure safe vaccinations so that we can return to normal life as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, COVID-19 vaccination reservations can be made through various methods including ▲online ‘COVID-19 Vaccination Advance Reservation System’ ▲call center ‘1339’ ▲visiting eup/myeon/dong administrative welfare centers, and guardians can also apply on behalf of others.
