[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Members of the People Power Party's Legislation and Judiciary Committee also criticized Minister of Justice Park Beom-gye for practicing "double standards" regarding the "publication of accused facts." They took issue with the Supreme Prosecutors' Office launching an investigation into the leaked indictment of Seoul Central District Prosecutor Lee Seong-yoon.
On the 18th, the opposition party's judiciary committee members held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office, stating, "Under Minister Park's directive, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office has begun a fact-finding investigation into the public disclosure of the indictment against Prosecutor Lee of Seoul Central District," and questioned, "Are there 'my side' and 'your side' even in the publication of accused facts?"
They said, "When Minister Park was an opposition lawmaker, he emphasized the public's right to know more than anyone else," adding, "But after the regime changed and he became Minister of Justice, his attitude has completely reversed, now criticizing this as illegal behavior by the prosecution."
The opposition judiciary committee members pointed out, "As the prosecution's investigation heads toward the Blue House and the regime, the intention to suppress it by labeling it as publication of accused facts is too obvious," and criticized, "How can the Minister of Justice so blatantly abuse his authority to obstruct the prosecution's investigation?"
They continued, "Before blaming the indictment leak as publication of accused facts, Minister Park should reflect on himself," and demanded, "Immediately stop identifying the leaker of the indictment and first suspend Prosecutor Lee from his duties."
They stated, "The Minister of Justice's failure to take any action against Prosecutor Lee's abuse of position and authority to cover up his own misconduct is a clear dereliction of duty," and warned sternly, "This is not only a disregard for the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Korea but also a serious criminal act mocking the people."
