[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam announced on the 18th that it has been finally selected for the 'eSports Permanent Stadium Construction Project' sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency, securing 3 billion KRW in national funding.

This contest was hosted by Gyeongsangnam-do Province, with Jinju City and the Gyeongnam Culture and Arts Promotion Agency participating as co-hosting organizations.

The city applied for the contest in March, underwent document and presentation evaluations on April 30, and after an on-site evaluation on May 12, was finally selected.

The Gyeongnam eSports Permanent Stadium selected in this contest is known to have received favorable evaluations for its excellent location conditions such as proximity to Gyeongsang National University, possession of convenience facilities, and transportation convenience around the Sinjinju Station area, as well as efforts by the hosting organizations to create linked programs and experience spaces with local tourism content and to attract the stadium.

The Gyeongnam eSports Permanent Stadium will be built on a 3,372㎡ area with two floors above ground, located in the Sinjinju Station area, and is planned to be constructed with a total investment of 12.7 billion KRW by 2022 under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

It will feature a main stadium with 700 seats and an auxiliary stadium with 500 seats built in a theater style, to be used as a complex cultural space. It will also be equipped with broadcasting facilities such as a main control room and observer room, waiting rooms for players and performers, and auxiliary facilities including an experience exhibition hall and cafeteria.

Additionally, for amateurs in the region, there are plans to create permanent leagues, practice spaces, an academy room, a one-person creator studio, and startup spaces.

Mayor Cho Gyu-il stated, “The Gyeongnam eSports Permanent Stadium being established in Jinju is expected not only to develop the vulnerable western Gyeongnam game content industry but also to serve as a cultural space enjoyed by all citizens,” and added, “We will spare no support to make it a new tourist attraction visited by domestic and international tourists.”
