SK Hynix Reviews Acquisition of Domestic Foundry Company 'KiFoundry'

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] SK Hynix is considering the complete acquisition of the domestic semiconductor foundry company 'Kipfoundry.'

According to industry sources on the 17th, SK Hynix is taking related steps to acquire Kipfoundry, the former MagnaChip foundry division.

Kipfoundry, a foundry specialized company based on 8-inch wafers, was launched last year when MagnaChip Semiconductor spun off and sold only its foundry business division.

At that time, the MagnaChip foundry business division was acquired by a fund (Magnus PEF) established by a domestic private equity fund. Saemaeul Geumgo Central Association and SK Hynix invested 50%+1 share and 49.8%, respectively, in this fund.

It is reported that SK Hynix is considering acquiring the remaining approximately half of the shares held by Saemaeul Geumgo Central Association and the private equity fund to fully acquire Kipfoundry. An SK Hynix official said, "We are reviewing various options to expand the foundry business, but nothing has been finalized."
