[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) has joined the ‘SOS Relay Challenge’ to prevent child abuse and address welfare blind spots.
The ‘S.O.S (Save Our Seoul) Relay Challenge’ is an SNS campaign aimed at protecting socially vulnerable groups, including children, from abuse and violence and resolving welfare blind spots.
The challenge is conducted by participants sharing photos on SNS holding signs with the slogan ‘SOS Challenge #LookAfter #FindOut #Inform #Protect’ along with related hashtags.
On the 14th, Dongjak-gu Mayor Lee Chang-woo participated upon being nominated by Gangnam-gu Mayor Jung Soon-gyun and Good Neighbors Seo In-ji Regional Director Hong Sun-gyo, supporting residents and staff working to prevent child abuse and resolve welfare blind spots.
He then nominated Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor Chae Hyun-il and Seodaemun-gu Mayor Moon Seok-jin as the next participants in the challenge.
Meanwhile, following the amendment of the Child Welfare Act last year, the district established the “Ordinance on Prevention of Child Abuse in Dongjak-gu, Seoul” in November, laying the foundation for child abuse-related work, thoroughly investigating unprotected children, and strengthening the child safety net.
Additionally, starting in the second half of the year, the district plans to conduct child abuse prevention education for all residents using an online platform to enhance child safety and sensitivity to children’s rights.
Mayor Lee Chang-woo of Dongjak-gu said, “Dongjak-gu is proactively preventing child abuse by implementing effective policies such as assigning dedicated child abuse officers and forming a child abuse response information council involving civil, public, and police sectors. Especially, from July, we will establish a child protection team to ensure children’s rights are protected and they are safe from abuse by creating a seamless public child protection system.”
