'20s Male Arrested and Indicted for Indiscriminate Assault on 70s Elderly Man at Apartment Entrance'

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] A man in his 20s, Mr. A, who is accused of assaulting a man in his 70s at an apartment entrance, was indicted on charges of attempted murder on the 17th.

The Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Choi Won-seok) announced on the same day, "We have indicted suspect Mr. A, who was arrested and sent to prosecution on the 30th of last month for attempted murder after assaulting an elderly resident of the apartment, on the same charge."

Mr. A was arrested at the scene on the afternoon of the 22nd of last month around 3 p.m. at the first-floor entrance of an apartment in Mapo-gu, Seoul, for violently beating the victim, a resident of the same building, with fists and feet. Mr. A was detained on the 24th of the same month on charges of serious injury.

The police initially booked Mr. A on charges of injury but applied charges of serious injury and requested an arrest warrant. However, based on the extent of the victim's injuries and witness statements, the charge was upgraded to attempted murder, and he was sent to prosecution under arrest on the 30th of last month. The victim's family also filed a complaint with the police requesting that Mr. A be punished for attempted murder.
