Gyeonggi Province's public delivery app, ‘Baedal Teukgeup’, is establishing itself in the market with positive responses from franchise owners.
Launched in December last year with the aim of coexisting with small business owners and consumers, ‘Baedal Teukgeup’ surpassed 770,000 transactions and 20 billion KRW in cumulative transaction volume within six months. Considering that the service is currently limited to 12 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province, this is beyond expectations.
So, what do the franchise owners who are conducting deliveries through Baedal Teukgeup think?
Franchise owners in areas where Baedal Teukgeup is operating unanimously welcome the significantly increased profits due to lower commissions compared to private delivery apps.
A tteokbokki chain store located in Hwaseong City recorded sales of about 37 million KRW from December last year to the 14th of this month using the Baedal Teukgeup app. The brokerage commission was about 370,000 KRW. If the sales were made through other private delivery apps, the commission would have been about 4.45 million KRW, but Baedal Teukgeup’s commission is only about 1/12 of that, resulting in an additional profit of around 4 million KRW.
Store owner A of the tteokbokki chain said, “At first, I was skeptical about the public delivery app, but since the service started, orders have been coming in steadily, and after calculating the actual remaining profit, I realized it has been a great help.”

Another store owner using Baedal Teukgeup expressed a similar view.
A galbi specialty restaurant in Suwon City, which has been operating in the same location for about 10 years and has become a local favorite, was experiencing a serious decline in sales due to the impact of COVID-19. As a countermeasure, although the store originally did not offer delivery, it started delivery services considering the decrease in dining out caused by the pandemic.
Store owner B of the galbi specialty restaurant said, “To overcome the continuous decline in sales, we started delivery through Baedal Teukgeup and earned about 1 million KRW in profit over a month. Although it is a small amount, we are satisfied as it is the first time the store has started delivery.”
B added, “We are also encouraging customers who visit the store to use Baedal Teukgeup by producing and posting promotional materials throughout the store.”
Based on the positive responses from franchise owners, Baedal Teukgeup is currently accepting applications from franchise owners in regions where the service is planned to be implemented. In addition, they plan to manage the service areas through continuous app upgrades and various consumer events.
Currently, Baedal Teukgeup is operating in 12 areas including Ansan, Suwon, and Hwaseong, and plans to expand its coverage to 28 local governments in Gyeonggi Province this year.
