President Moon: "This US Visit as an Opportunity to Become a Global Vaccine Production Hub" (Comprehensive)

Cheong presides over briefing meeting, expresses determination for US visit... conveys regret over industrial accident, urges 'field-centered proactive administration'

[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] President Moon Jae-in stated on the 17th at the Blue House senior secretaries and aides meeting, "I will use this visit to the U.S. as an opportunity to strengthen vaccine cooperation and advance toward becoming a global hub for vaccine production."

President Moon said, "We will do our best to ensure thorough quarantine measures and carry out vaccinations without any setbacks, while trying to bring forward the timing of returning to normal life even by a little."

President Moon presided over the Blue House senior secretaries and aides meeting for the first time since May. On the 3rd, the 2nd Special COVID-19 Response Quarantine Inspection Meeting was held, and on the 10th, no separate Blue House senior secretaries and aides meeting was held due to the special speech on the 4th anniversary of his inauguration. President Moon is scheduled to hold the Korea-U.S. summit on the 21st. This senior secretaries and aides meeting was an occasion to deliver messages of encouragement not only to the Blue House staff but also to the Cabinet ahead of the U.S. visit schedule.

President Moon pledged, "The government has set a clear goal to vigorously move forward on the path of recovery, inclusion, and leap beyond the COVID-19 crisis during the remaining one year of the term. We will plan meticulously and execute swiftly and boldly with a desperate determination to achieve this goal."

Regarding the economic recovery trend, President Moon stated, "We will devote all our efforts so that the warmth of livelihood can spread throughout society." He emphasized, "Complete economic recovery means that the lives of the people actually improve. Above all, the urgent task is to restore jobs that are most directly connected to the people's lives."

President Moon said, "We will prioritize creating private sector jobs, focusing on quickly resolving the mismatch between job openings and job seekers."

He pledged, "Once the household trend survey results for the first quarter are released, we will analyze them closely and prepare additional measures, dedicating ourselves to inclusive recovery until the end of the term."

Meanwhile, before the senior secretaries and aides meeting, President Moon held his first weekly meeting with Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum. President Moon reiterated the importance of 'field-centered proactive administration' that he had emphasized to Prime Minister Kim during the senior secretaries and aides meeting as well.

President Moon said, "Today, I especially ask for field-centered proactive administration. Since the newly appointed Prime Minister has always valued communication with the field, I hope that under the Prime Minister's leadership, all ministries will work together to find problems and seek answers on-site."

President Moon expressed, "I feel very sorry and regretful about the recent news of industrial accident deaths occurring in various places."

President Moon said, "Backward industrial accident deaths that hurt the hearts of the people continue without end. Please remember once again that the solution to the problem does not lie in measures prepared in meetings but in the field."
