Industrial Accident TF Launched by the Democratic Party... Kim Young-bae, Head, "Preparing Well for the Enforcement Decree of the Serious Accident Punishment Act"

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Democratic Party's Industrial Accident Prevention Task Force (TF) has decided to focus on preparing and reviewing the Serious Accident Punishment Act. Additionally, they plan to explore ways to reduce industrial accidents by strengthening the enforcement decree of the Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance Act and to reflect field demands in policies through activities in the June National Assembly standing committee.

On the 17th, Kim Young-bae, the head of the Industrial Accident Prevention TF, met with reporters after the first meeting and stated, "We will operate with a work-centered and performance-centered approach to strengthen not only laws and systems but also field demands to achieve practical industrial accident prevention effects," revealing the operational direction.

The Industrial Accident Prevention TF was formed following the death of Lee Seon-ho, a man in his 20s who died during cargo work at Pyeongtaek Port. The TF, which will be responsible for measures to prevent recurrence of industrial accidents, discussed its future operational direction at the first meeting held that day. The TF plans to mainly address reviewing the enforcement decree of the Serious Accident Punishment Act, issues related to the revision of the Labor Standards Act, reducing industrial accidents through strengthening the enforcement decree of the Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance Act, and enhancing field activities.

Rep. Kim said, "Even if we do not immediately change laws and systems, we will examine whether there are ways to reduce actual industrial accidents by strengthening government enforcement decrees, and through activities in the June National Assembly standing committee, we will review government policies and reflect field demands."

Regarding the Serious Accident Punishment Act, he explained, "Since it was discussed through intense processes between the ruling and opposition parties, and the law is set to take effect in January next year, we are currently focusing on properly preparing and reviewing the enforcement decree," adding, "If necessary improvements arise, they will be reviewed after the bill is enacted."
