[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] LIG Nex1 has signed a production contract worth 164 billion KRW with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration for the Maritime Surveillance Radar-II.
According to LIG Nex1 on the 17th, the 'Maritime Surveillance Radar-II,' which replaces the existing maritime surveillance radar, is a radar that detects ships and aircraft moving in mid-range maritime areas and will be installed in major coastal and island regions. The detection information is linked with the Navy's tactical C4I system.
The Maritime Surveillance Radar-II was developed by LIG Nex1, which successfully completed the research and development. Unlike the existing equipment produced through technical cooperation with a U.S. company, it was made based on domestic technology.
The Maritime Surveillance Radar-II has enhanced detection capabilities to separate and identify adjacent targets. Additionally, it applies a radome shape with a protective cover over the radar antenna to withstand strong winds and typhoons.
A LIG Nex1 official stated, "We have significantly improved stability by increasing durability against heat and shock while reducing power consumption."
The equipment produced through this production contract will be sequentially installed in all maritime areas of the East, West, and South Seas through the Navy starting next year. This is expected to further strengthen our military's maritime surveillance and early response capabilities.
In addition to LIG Nex1 as the system company, many medium-sized and small partner companies, including STX Engine, are participating in this production project.
Kim Ji-chan, CEO of LIG Nex1, said, "The Maritime Surveillance Radar-II has entered full-scale production thanks to the active interest and support of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, the Defense Technology Quality Institute, and related industry, academia, research, and military personnel. We will do our best to manage schedules and quality in cooperation with our partners."
