[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Kakao Mobility announced on the 17th that it will provide an 'electric vehicle charging service' in collaboration with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).
The two companies signed a 'Service Development Cooperation (MOU) for Building an Electric Vehicle Charging Platform' on the 14th at Kakao Mobility's headquarters located in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do.
KEPCO plans to develop a customer convenience charging service through cooperation with Kakao Mobility, which possesses big data and analytical know-how accumulated from operating mobility services.
The two companies will link Kakao Navi and KEPCO's roaming platform 'ChargeLink' to provide a charging planner service that allows users to find the optimal charging station along their driving route and make payments directly through the navigation system.
Based on the navigation map, the service recommends the optimal charging station considering proximity along the route, charger status, and fee information. It also offers a charging reservation function that allows users to charge at their desired time and a simple payment service through the Kakao Navi mobile app.
KEPCO also plans to develop a simple payment service for parking fee discounts. By linking KEPCO's roaming platform with Kakao T parking lots operated by Kakao Mobility, users can automatically receive parking fee discounts upon exiting after charging their electric vehicles.
Ryu Geung-seon, CEO of Kakao Mobility, stated, "This agreement is expected to be a significant turning point in accelerating the popularization of electric vehicles in Korea," adding, "The two companies will discuss various measures to improve the charging service experience for electric vehicle owners through a continuous strategic partnership, not limited to one-time cooperation in specific businesses."
