Keynote Presentation by Former Special Advisor on Unification, Diplomacy, and Security Moon Jeong-in
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Lee Nak-yeon, former leader of the Democratic Party and a presidential candidate, will hold a seminar titled "Prospects for Northeast Asia in the Biden Era and Korea's Role" with experts in diplomacy and security ahead of the Korea-US summit scheduled for the 21st.
On the 17th, Lee will co-host an academic conference with the Soongsil Peace and Unification Institute at the Hi Seoul Youth Hostel auditorium in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. This seminar, held just before President Moon Jae-in's summit in the United States, will discuss various agendas including US-China conflicts and the establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula.
Lee said, "President Moon's summit in the US is an important schedule to broaden consensus with the Biden administration on various diplomatic and security issues such as peace on the Korean Peninsula, vaccines, and Korea-Japan relations, and to further solidify the Korea-US cooperative relationship." He evaluated the significance of the academic conference by adding, "I hope this academic conference will be a valuable opportunity for leading experts to gather ahead of the summit to review key agendas and derive meaningful suggestions."
Lee plans to propose a "new diplomacy based on the Korea-US alliance" strategy that strengthens the Korea-US alliance while maintaining a strategic cooperative partnership with China, and emphasize the need for Korea-US agreement on a phased denuclearization process for peace on the Korean Peninsula.
The event will be attended by politicians, academia, experts, as well as the general public, and can be viewed via live broadcast on YouTube.
