[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dobong-gu (Mayor Lee Dong-jin) designated two hospitals, Hanil Hospital (Director Jo In-su) and Seoul Novus Hospital (Director Oh Seung-yong), as specialized medical institutions for child abuse on the 14th at the district office’s Communication Cooperation Office to provide prompt medical service support for abused children, and held a signing ceremony for the agreement.

The signing ceremony was also attended by related local organizations, including the Seoul Dobong Police Station (Chief Song Yoo-cheol) and Seongbuk Child Protection Agency (Director Kim Byung-ik), who joined the agreement to strengthen responses to child abuse and protection of abused children.

The significance of this agreement is considerable amid the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s announcement of the ‘Inclusive Nation Child Policy’ regarding the reorganization of the child abuse response system, and the establishment of the ‘Immediate Separation System,’ which immediately separates children suspected of abuse twice or more or strongly suspected of abuse from the perpetrators, increasing public responsibility and the role of local governments.

The district expects that the designation of specialized medical institutions will play a central role in child abuse medical institutions by securing hospital beds and providing medical consultation support for prompt emergency measures and active treatment of abused children, while the participation of local related organizations will also provide strong momentum for education and publicity related to improving awareness of child abuse.

After the agreement, Lee Dong-jin, Mayor of Dobong-gu, stated, “We will do our best to establish a close communication and cooperation system with local related organizations together with Hanil Hospital and Seoul Novus Hospital to protect and guarantee the rights of abused children in the region.”

Dobong-gu is currently leading various efforts to eradicate child abuse, including ▲establishing a child abuse response information linkage council, a civil-police-government cooperation system ▲producing child abuse promotional videos and pamphlets to change awareness of children’s rights and child abuse ▲building a 24-hour child abuse response system.
