Nationwide Video Contest Open to All Citizens
Part of Media Creation Support Center Project
Establishing a Public-Private Cooperation Model
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] SK Broadband's public-private cooperation model 'Media Creation Contest' has reached its second edition this year.
SK Broadband announced on the 17th that the 2nd Media Creation Contest 'Our Neighborhood Television - Exhibition' in collaboration with local communities will be held until mid-July this year. Video proposal submissions are accepted until the 18th of this month.
The themes of this contest are 'Revisiting the Environment,' which tells stories of small eco-friendly practices in daily life; 'Revisiting the Region,' which covers stories of co-growth with local communities; and 'Revisiting People,' which narrates the resilient lives overcoming COVID-19 and finding spring again. Unlike last year, when completed video content was solicited, this year the contest selects video content proposals that fit the themes. All 15 teams advancing to the finals will be given opportunities for video content production and expert mentoring.

The Media Creation Contest is part of the Media Creation Support Center project. In June last year, SK Broadband signed a business agreement with the National Media Center Council and the Korea Communications Agency to create social value and expand local residents' participation in media, opening Media Creation Support Centers in over 10 regions nationwide. Major support projects include assisting citizen-created content production, broadcasting through Btv local channels, and developing and operating programs to enhance media literacy capabilities. Content creation education is provided to local residents.
As the first project in the second half of last year, the 1st Media Creation Contest was held, selecting 19 award-winning videos out of 431 submissions. The grand prize went to Jang Ki-tak's 'Gap,' which reflected on a daily life fearful of face-to-face encounters. The award-winning works were restructured into nine 'Social Value Empathy' programs and specially scheduled on the local channel 'Our Neighborhood B tv,' B tv, and B tv cable video-on-demand (VOD).
A representative from the Media Creation Support Center said, "Trainees feel proud to see the videos they made themselves broadcasted," adding, "Interest and participation in media among local residents are increasing through the Media Creation Contest."
Ko Young-ho, Head of SK Broadband Cable Broadcasting Headquarters, stated, "This contest aims to open doors for citizens who have ideas but lack video production skills to participate," and added, "Through expert mentoring, we aim to produce high-quality videos and create a virtuous cycle in local media by scheduling and broadcasting the produced content."
