Jungnang-gu Hosts 12th Multicultural Festival Enjoying Global Games at Home

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) will hold the "12th Multicultural Festival" combining online and offline events until the 25th, hosted by the Jungnang-gu Healthy Family Multicultural Family Support Center, to create a space for communication between multicultural families and non-multicultural families.

Looking closely at the festival details, until the 20th, an "Online Multicultural Quiz" will be held on the Jungnang-gu Healthy Family Multicultural Family Support Center blog to enhance understanding of various countries' cultures.

Participants can also experience various play cultures. At the World Cultural Play Experience, you can try Shagai, one of the Mongolian games where sheep bones are made into beads and played with; Daruma Otoshi, a traditional Japanese game where blocks are stacked and knocked out with a toy hammer; as well as world flag pinwheels and traditional house paper toys.

The experience method is to apply for the desired play kit through the center’s blog, receive it, and enjoy the play at home. Applications for play kits are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until May 20.

On the 25th, from 12 PM to 5 PM, the multicultural festival will be held on-site at Yangji Village Yard (213-3 Myeonmok-dong), featuring traditional Russian and Mongolian dance performances, multicultural experience activities, and a clothing bazaar.

Multicultural experience activities will include making traditional food paper toys and world traditional costume candle holders. Especially, from 4 PM, the multicultural performance will showcase the Mongolian traditional dance Halhira, the Russian traditional dance Kalinka, and Aurora, promising a lively festival experience.

Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, "In celebration of Family Month in May, I hope this multicultural festival will serve as an opportunity for residents to increase their understanding and improve awareness of multicultural families," adding, "We will continue to make efforts so that multicultural families can live healthily as members of the local community."

Myeonmokbon-dong, where Yangji Village Yard is located, has the highest number of marriage immigrants in the district, totaling 334 people, and the annually held multicultural festival has become a place for residents to communicate and interact.
