Hong said, "One should not engage in despicable politics that make one a cuckoo egg. Cuckoo politics, which deceive the people with sinister intentions, will soon be exposed and lead to political expulsion."
The cuckoo does not raise its own eggs but places them in the nests of already laid species like the skylark to be raised by them.
Hong said, "One must do politics with dignity. The reason I was able to serve five terms as a member of the National Assembly, two terms as a metropolitan mayor, two terms as floor leader, two terms as party leader, and even run for president over 26 years without belonging to any faction in this chaotic arena is precisely because of my dignity."
