[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] POSCO Cheongam Foundation announced on the 16th that it has selected Jeong Han-ho (24, photo) and Lee Young-ho (23) as POSCO Heroes. In late March, Jeong saw a vehicle fall below a breakwater near a fishing village in Jindong-myeon, Masanhappo-gu, Changwon City, and jumped into the sea to rescue the driver. In a situation where the water was rising due to heavy rain, he used a hammer that he used to help his parents to break the glass of the submerged vehicle and saved the driver.
Last month, Lee witnessed a four-vehicle collision involving a bus and trucks at Jeju University intersection. He evacuated the lightly injured to a safe place and, to save an unconscious injured person before the firefighters arrived, he held the bus door and lifted the bus to create space for rescue activities. The foundation visited Pukyong National University and Jeju National University, where the two heroes belong, to present plaques and scholarships.
The POSCO Heroes Fellowship is a program that supports heroes who sacrificed themselves for the nation and social justice or their children to continue their studies stably. Established in 2019, 32 people have been selected so far. A foundation official said, "The two university students selected as heroes this time risked their own bodies in crisis situations to save the lives of citizens in danger, becoming great role models for our society."
