[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Following the relaxation of mask-wearing regulations by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an increasing number of companies are adopting the new guidelines.

CNN reported on the 15th (local time) that coffee chain Starbucks, theme park Walt Disney World, and grocery chain Publix announced they will implement the revised CDC mask recommendations at their stores and amusement parks.

On the 13th, the CDC updated its mask-wearing guidelines, stating that people who have completed their COVID-19 vaccinations do not need to wear masks in most indoor and outdoor environments.

Starbucks announced that starting Monday the 17th, fully vaccinated customers will be free to choose whether to wear masks. However, regions where local governments such as states or cities mandate mask-wearing are exceptions.

Disney World in Orlando, Florida, also announced that from the same day, mask-wearing will be optional for all guests in outdoor public areas. However, masks must be worn while riding attractions, in theaters, and on transportation within the park.

Universal Studios, also located in the same area, similarly updated its health protocols. While masks are not mandatory outdoors, masks must still be worn in all indoor spaces such as shops and restaurants, as well as on all rides.

Publix also stated that from that day forward, fully vaccinated employees and customers are not required to wear masks inside stores. Prior to this, major retailers Walmart, Trader Joe's, Sam's Club, and Costco announced on the 14th that vaccinated individuals would be exempt from mask mandates.
