[Golf Topic] Mickelson "US Open Invitational Player Participation" Phil Mickelson will participate in this year's US Open as an invited player.

[Asia Economy Reporter Noo Rae Noh] ○…Veteran Phil Mickelson (USA) will participate in this year's US Open as an invited player.

Mike Davis, president of the United States Golf Association (USGA), said on the 15th (Korean time) through the official website, "Mickelson has consistently delivered excellent results in association-sanctioned tournaments," and added, "We are pleased to invite him this year." Mickelson also responded, "Winning the US Open has been my long-time dream," and said, "You cannot win if you do not participate, so I am honored to be given this opportunity." The US Open is the final puzzle piece on the path to the 'Career Grand Slam,' which means winning all four major championships.

Mickelson has appeared in the US Open 29 times, finishing as runner-up six times without a victory. This is the record for the most second-place finishes in the tournament's history. From 1994 to last year, he only missed the US Open in 2017, when the tournament's opening day coincided with his daughter's high school graduation ceremony. This year, the event will be held over four days starting June 17 at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California. For Mickelson, who was born in San Diego, this US Open is taking place in his hometown.
