Completion of Naejangsan Baekyang Valley Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration Project... Natural Scenery Recovered

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Baegyang Valley artificial structure (bridge) removal project, initiated by the Baegamsa Office of Naejangsan National Park under the Korea National Park Service since April, has been completed, the office announced on the 14th.

This project aims to restore the health of the aquatic ecosystem and natural scenery by removing artificial structures in the valley area.

The artificial structures installed long ago to facilitate passage through the valley damaged the surrounding landscape and disrupted the aquatic ecosystem, negatively impacting the management of natural resources in the national park.

The ecological restoration achieved through this project has enhanced habitat protection and management effectiveness.

This area is designated as a special protection zone because it is an unofficial trail where second-class endangered species such as Jin-norang-sangsahwa (Lycoris chinensis) inhabit.

Kim Byungsoo, Head of Resource Conservation at the Baegamsa Office of Naejangsan National Park, stated, “We will continue to strive to improve the health and diversity of the national park ecosystem through the removal of artificial structures that may adversely affect the ecosystem and restoration projects. Naejangsan National Park will do its utmost to preserve the ecosystem so that the natural ecosystem can function as it originally should.”
