[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education lost a lawsuit filed in opposition to the cancellation of the designation of Jungang High School and Ewha Girls' High School as autonomous private high schools. This is the third case following Sehwa High School, Paichai High School, Soongmoon High School, and Shinil High School.
On the 14th, the Seoul Administrative Court ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, the school corporations Goryeo Jungang Academy (Jungang High School) and Ewha Hakdang (Ewha Girls' High School), in the lawsuit challenging the cancellation of the autonomous private high school designation.
On the same day, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education expressed regret in a statement and announced that it would immediately appeal. They plan to carefully analyze the court's reasoning as soon as the judgment is delivered and file an appeal.
Cho Hee-yeon, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, "Despite rough storms, we will steadfastly pursue the policy of normalizing high school education with the belief that the ship must reach its destination."
