[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The Seoul Northern District Court Criminal Division 11 (Presiding Judge Go Chung-jung) announced on the 14th that it sentenced Im Mo (52), who was charged with murder, to 25 years in prison and ordered him to wear an electronic location tracking device for 10 years.
Im is accused of killing a man, Mr. A, around 9 p.m. on November 21 last year in a residential area in Sanggye-dong, Nowon-gu, Seoul.
He stabbed Mr. A dozens of times in the head and neck with a weapon, causing his death. After the crime, Im was found to have calmly eaten nearby.
The court stated, "Human life is precious and the crime cannot be justified for any reason," adding, "The defendant showed no signs of remorse, so severe punishment is necessary." Im’s side claimed diminished mental capacity, but the court did not accept this.
Previously, in March last year, Im was tried for threatening citizens while carrying an axe in Nowon-gu but was released with a suspended prison sentence in the first trial. The current crime was committed while the appeal trial was ongoing.
