[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] The COVID-19 vaccination reservation rate for seniors aged 70 and above has surpassed the majority. The reservation rate for those aged 65 to 69, now on its fifth day of pre-booking, was also recorded at 43.9%.

At a COVID-19 briefing on the 14th, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters announced, "So far, a total of 3.37 million people have made vaccination reservations, with 1.12 million reservations made just yesterday." Specifically, the reservation rate for seniors aged 70 and above, which began on the 6th, reached 54.9% as of midnight on the 14th, surpassing the majority. Additionally, the reservation rate for those aged 65 to 69, which started on the 10th, was 43.9%, and the reservation rate for those aged 60 to 64, which began the day before, was recorded at 18.6% within just one day.

The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters emphasized, "Many citizens are worried and concerned about vaccination, but vaccination can prevent most COVID-19 infections (86.6%) and reduce the risk of infection in daily life. Seniors, who have a higher fatality rate from COVID-19, can protect their lives and safety through vaccination and enjoy their daily lives."

Recently, the introduction of AstraZeneca and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines has eased vaccine supply constraints. On the 12th, 438,000 doses of Pfizer were introduced, followed by 835,000 doses of AstraZeneca on the 13th. On this day as well, 597,000 doses of AstraZeneca arrived, and several subsequent shipments are scheduled to be introduced by the end of this month.

Yoon Tae-ho, head of the Central Accident Response Headquarters' quarantine team, regarding the allowance of visits to nursing hospitals for those who have completed vaccination, said, "Currently, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and the Central Disease Control Headquarters are preparing a detailed guideline draft and are continuously reviewing it. We are collecting opinions from the field, such as the status of second vaccinations and preparation of on-site visiting rooms, and through meetings with nursing hospital and nursing facility associations, we plan to finalize and announce the details in May."
