[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Justice Party lawmaker Sim Sang-jung has argued that President Moon Jae-in needs to apologize regarding the controversy over ministerial nominees.

On the 14th, Sim appeared on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' and said, "When the Moon Jae-in administration was launched, there were seven principles, or personnel appointment principles, but in fact, there were almost no personnel who met those standards," adding, "An apology from the president for the lowering of moral standards would be a gesture that greatly helps communication with the public."

The Justice Party is demanding not only the withdrawal of Park Jun-young, the nominee for Minister of Oceans and Fisheries who resigned voluntarily the day before, but also the withdrawal of Im Hye-sook, the nominee for Minister of Science and ICT, who is under suspicion of overseas leisure trips.

Sim said, "As the administration nears its end, there is an obsession with not losing ground any further. I think it is time to shake off such burdens and engage in sincere communication while facing the public's expectations."

She added, "Of course, it may not be possible to accept all partisan opposition from the opposition parties, but in the case of nominee Im Hye-sook, public evaluation is very unfavorable. Therefore, the evaluation from the public's perspective should be accepted."

She continued, "The public does not think that the standard for high-ranking officials is simply that they are not criminals. Also, people should not be chosen only from within the camp or ruling party; it would be better to appoint more broadly. I think this is one of the public's major wishes."
