GIST Auditor Shingwangsik Appointed as Member of Gwangju Autonomous Police Committee


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) announced on the 14th that Shin Kwang-sik, an auditor belonging to the Audit Office, has been appointed as a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Autonomous Police Committee.


The term of office is three years, from the 10th of this month to May 9, 2024.


The Gwangju Autonomous Police Committee, composed of experts from various fields including two legal professionals, two academics, one civic group member, one media representative, and one former police officer, including Auditor Shin Kwang-sik, serves as the command body of the autonomous police responsible for public safety tasks such as school violence, crimes related to children and women, and traffic regulations. It has the authority to deliberate and decide on the appointment of officials, budget, personnel, and policies, and performs its duties independently.


Auditor Shin said, "I will do my best to listen to the voices of Gwangju citizens and activate community-friendly policing activities so that the autonomous police system can be established early."


Meanwhile, Auditor Shin previously served as the vice president of the Gwangju Bar Association and is currently actively involved in the local community as a non-standing auditor at GIST, legal advisor to the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, and a member of the free legal support group for the Goryeoin Village in Gwangju as a legal expert.
