Jeonnam National University Hospital Convergence Medical Device Industry Support Center Signs Business Agreement with 3D Printing Specialist Company Kusmedi Co., Ltd.


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] The Convergence Medical Device Industry Support Center at Chonnam National University Hospital announced on the 13th that it signed a business agreement with Korea's 3D printing specialist company, Kusmedi Co., Ltd., to establish a mutual cooperation system through R&D collaboration and technology exchange in the medical field of 3D printing.


The signing ceremony was attended by Yoon Taek-rim, head of the Convergence Medical Device Industry Support Center, Ko Jong-wook, CEO of Kusmedi Co., Ltd., and other related personnel from 3D printing companies.


According to this agreement, the two organizations will promote ▲ joint research and technology development in 3D printing ▲ discussion and execution of collaborative projects ▲ joint use of facilities and equipment ▲ mutual exchange of research personnel.


They also plan to continue ongoing research exchanges through events such as technology seminars.


Center Director Yoon Taek-rim said, “This agreement was made as part of efforts to strengthen the cooperation network between industrial technology and the medical field in the 3D printing sector leading innovation in the domestic and international medical fields, and we expect it to accelerate practical R&D and enhance technological competitiveness.”


He added, “Based on about 40 types of equipment facilities including 3D printers, processing and testing analysis equipment possessed by the Convergence Medical Device Industry Support Center, we plan to carry out joint projects by combining Chonnam National University Hospital’s medical infrastructure, medical staff ideas, and the technological capabilities of specialized research companies.”


Meanwhile, the Convergence Medical Device Industry Support Center at Chonnam National University Hospital was established last December with a budget of 27 billion KRW supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Gwangju Metropolitan City. It is located on a 5,824㎡ (1,764 pyeong) site within the Advanced Medical Industry Complex, with a total floor area of 3,647㎡ (1,103 pyeong) and two above-ground floors, leading the revitalization of the regional medical industry.


Kusmedi Co., Ltd. is a 3D printing specialist company manufacturing customized medical devices such as artificial bones and surgical instruments using 3D printers, currently conducting the Ministry of Industry’s 3D printing medical device industrial technology demonstration project.
