18 City Bus Routes Diverted via Geumnam-ro on the 15th and 17th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 13th that it will implement special traffic measures for the convenience of participants and citizens at the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery, where the 41st anniversary commemoration of the May 18 Democratic Uprising will be held, and the 5·18 Democracy Square, where the eve ceremony will take place.
In preparation for the concentration of vehicles near Geumnam-ro 5·18 Democracy Square, where the May 18 Democratic Uprising Workers' Rally (May 15) and the eve ceremony (May 17) will be held, ▲ from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the 15th and ▲ from 12 p.m. to midnight on the 17th, 18 city bus routes passing through 5·18 Democracy Square will be rerouted at Geumnam-ro 4-way intersection.
Additionally, for the convenience of visitors to the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery, where the memorial ceremony will be held, a total of 37 city buses will be increased or extended by 250 trips.
From the 17th to the 18th, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., bus number 518 will operate 17 additional buses for 88 trips, and the monthly route 06, which usually runs to Jangdeung-dong, will be extended to the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery with 20 buses operating 162 trips from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
About 70 traffic control personnel from the city, autonomous districts, and the Model Drivers Association, along with guide vehicles and traffic police, will be deployed on-site around 5·18 Democracy Square and the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery to maintain traffic flow and order.
Park Gap-su, head of the city's Traffic Policy Division, said, “Although the 41st anniversary commemoration of the May 18 Democratic Uprising will be scaled down due to COVID-19, temporary vehicle restrictions and bus detours are expected in the event area,” and added, “We ask for the generous understanding and cooperation of citizens.”
