Improving Living Conditions by Providing Basic Transportation Rights in Island Areas
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Jeonnam Goheung-gun (Governor Song Gwi-geun) announced on the 13th that the local road No. 830 between Goheung and Wando, a pending project of Goheung-gun and Wando-gun, and the winding hill road improvement section (3.24km) near the entrance of Bongrae Space Center, completed last February, on county road No. 11 have been upgraded to national roads.
The coastal tourist road between Goheung and Wando, upgraded to a national road, is a project connecting 42.4km sections from Geumsan (Yeonhongdo~Sinyang) in Goheung to Wando (Yaksan~Geumil~Geumdang) with five bridges, with a total national budget of 900.8 billion KRW invested.
The county visited the National Assembly and central government agencies several times to request the upgrade to a national road by changing the starting point of National Road No. 27 located in Geumsan to Wando Gogeum, and in October last year, jointly conducted a signature campaign for the national road upgrade with the residents of Goheung-gun, Wando-gun, and Haenam-gun, delivering the will of about 170,000 people to the Presidential Secretariat, the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the National Assembly, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
In addition, the Goheung County Council and Wando County Council adopted a joint resolution urging the upgrade to a national road, and seven provincial governors issued a joint petition for the designation of general national road routes.
A county official stated, “With the upgrade of the coastal tourist road between Goheung and Wando to a national road, the 88km distance will be shortened by connecting disconnected road sections, providing basic transportation rights to the island area of Geumsan Yeonhongdo, reducing logistics costs, and creating marine tourism demand, enabling the city to leap forward as a marine tourism hub.”
